Using Card Swipe Readers with the Virtual Point of Sale (POS tab)

The Exact Gateway supports USB magnetic stripe swipe card readers.

Brand name: MagtekⓇ

Available to purchase at online and retail stores. 

Other brands may be operational, but are used at a merchant’s discretion. Please use the Demo environment to test other hardware brands before using them in Production. When testing, please ensure that all the fields are populated properly. In addition, credit card number must be populated in the credit card number field (entering credit card numbers into other fields will cause the transaction to be rejected). 

Please Note: a swipe reader is not an EMV compliant device. 

To use a card reader with the E-xact Gateway the terminal type must be set to "Retail" (configured via the Terminals -> Details menu)

To process a swiped transaction: 

• Choose the POS tab 


• Select the appropriate terminal from the drop down menu on the right (Retail type terminal only)


• Choose the Transaction Type 


• Enter the dollar amount


• Put mouse cursor on the Card Holder's Name field


• Swipe the card on the card reader


• After you swipe the card, the card holder's information will be populated. Double check that the data was entered correctly into the appropriate fields


• You can manually populate optional fields like Reference Number 


• Click Process Transaction
